Kora Puckett – In My Veins
“In My Veins” is a song about a pain sharper than a heartbeat, and it sounds like an afternoon on a front porch. Kora Puckett lets those two things sit side by side: the guitars bounce along, loose and bright, while the lyric takes a long walk out to the countryside and comes back with the question someone once asked him, now turned on himself: is he actually alright?
Puckett is better known for the louder end of things. The Goshen, Indiana-born, LA-based musician sings and plays guitar in Narrow Head, plays in The Berries and Seko, and has played with Sheer Mag, Angel Du$t and Bugg. On the production side he co-wrote and co-produced Ethel Cain’s “Michelle Pfeiffer”. His solo songs go somewhere else entirely, country-leaning rock with an indie spine, and “In My Veins” is his first new music since a three-song vinyl EP on Let’s Pretend Records in 2024.
It’s also his first release on Todo, with a debut solo album due in 2027. He describes the single as the start of a new way of working: “keep things loose and open” (cit. Stereogum), and lean on artists you love.
